Willmott Dixon Wins Huddersfield Bus Station Transport Hub Job

Willmott Dixon has been appointed to deliver the £28m transformation of Huddersfield Bus Station, adding to the contractor's growing portfolio of transport interchange schemes across the UK. The project, for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Kirklees Council, saw groundworks begin on 15th June following initial enabling works.

The refurbishment will create a modernised bus station featuring real-time bus and rail information screens, upgraded security and improved accessibility facilities, alongside external works including a new entrance canopy, solar panels, a green roof, cycle parking, and wider public realm improvements. The scheme forms part of the Weaver Network, West Yorkshire's integrated transport system linking buses, rail, future mass transit services, and active travel routes under a single brand.

Construction is scheduled to complete in spring 2028, with the bus station remaining fully operational throughout the works and services continuing to run from temporary stands. Willmott Dixon has built a strong track record delivering similar projects, including Stevenage and Halifax bus stations and the Stockport and North Tyneside interchanges, as well as upgrade work at Darlington station.
