With a goal of 1.5 million new homes, the UK must train and recruit 100,000 new construction workers every year until 2029. That's essential to counterbalance the 210,000 people lost annually through retirements or job changes. The Construction Skills Mission Board (a collaboration of Government, industry, union, and training bodies) is leading the effort, which is backed by over £625m in new funding.
Still, challenges remain. Small and medium-sized building companies, who train most apprentices, aren't fully involved yet. Experts say fixing that gap, along with better communication and fresh training models, are key to long-term success.
