Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, has given the green-light for a massive new solar farm near Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, which will be capable of delivering 700 MW of clean power - enough to supply around 300,000 homes.
The project spans over 1,200 hectares, making it the UK's largest solar development to date. It's part of a clean energy push with the Government approving several major renewable projects since returning to power.
Miliband defended the decision in Parliament, arguing that renewable energy is essential for lowering bills, boosting energy independence, and meeting climate goals. He also outlined ambition to expand onshore wind and solar capacity significantly over the next several years.
