The head of one of London's biggest infrastructure projects, Andy Mitchell, has announced he will step down as CEO of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project in Spring 2026.
The £5 billion project, often called the 'super sewer', is designed to clean up the River Thames by drastically reducing the amount of raw sewage that spills into it. Construction has been going on for years, and the project is now in its final stages.
Despite some challenges along the way, the tunnel is being delivered close to its original budget and schedule - a rare success for a project of this size. Mitchell will stay on until completion to ensure a smooth handover. Once finished, the super sewer will be one of the UK's most important environmental infrastructure projects, helping to make the Thames cleaner and healthier for generations to come.
