A major new regeneration project in York has taken a step forward with detailed planning submissions for the £2 billion York Central scheme - set to be the UK's largest city-centre redevelopment if it gets full approval.
The project would transform 110 acres of brownfield land next to York Station into a mixed-use neighbourhood with 2,500 homes, a 213-room hotel, commercial space, civic plazas, and parkland. A new western station entrance and upgrades to rail infrastructure are also part of the plan.
Initial construction would begin as early as autumn 2026, with a target to complete many elements of the first phase by winter 2028, and full delivery stretching into the mid-2030's. This development is expected to create thousands of jobs and bring a significant economic boost to the region.
