New Waterside Bridge for Nottingham Reaches Key Milestone

Nottingham's Waterside Bridge, an 85-metre network-arch bridge designed for pedestrians and cyclists, has reached a major milestone with the lifting of its main span over the River Trent - by Europe's largest crane. This step is a significant part of the construction process and brings the project closer to completion.

The bridge will connect both sides of the river, improving access to Nottingham's cycle network and providing a safer, more sustainable route for commuters and leisure users. The design also includes features to enhance the riverside area, such as landscaped access points and public seating.

Scheduled to open in Spring 2026, the bridge is a key part of Nottingham City Council's wider plans to promote active travel and green infrastructure. Once complete, it will not only offer a practical route for pedestrians and cyclists but will also become a new visual landmark along the riverfront.
