Manchester Piccadilly Station Closes for Major Overhaul

Manchester Piccadilly, one of the UK's busiest train stations, temporarily closed from 14 February 2026 for a nine-day overhaul of track and signalling infrastructure. The £8 million project is described by Network Rail as a "once-in-a-generation" upgrade, aimed at reducing ongoing service disruptions and improving reliability on key routes.

During the closure, services from the south and east will not enter the station, with alternate arrangements put in place so passengers can still travel with minimal disruption. The work focuses on modernising aging 1980's-era infrastructure that supports hundreds of trains each day, ensuring the approach to the station is more resilient and fit for future demand.

The temporary closure has been carefully planned with local transport partners, including Transport for Greater Manchester, to help commuters adapt. Once complete, the upgrades will benefit passengers by cutting delays and improving overall journey times across the network.
