The current Labour Government plans to bring back the Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) project later this year. That means faster trains connecting Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Bradford, and Sheffield. The project would also bring back part of the cancelled HS2 route between Crewe and Manchester.
This revival aligns with Labour's goal to boost the North's economy and lessen regional inequality. Plans will be announced before the Labour party conference, with talks underway on private investment to find the ambitious scheme.
