Kier has been awarded a contract to build the North Plaza at Sizewell C, the new Nuclear Power Station taking shape on the Suffolk coast. The 15-hectare site will form the main entrance and gateway to the project's Temporary Construction Area, providing transport hubs, delivery facilities, and security infrastructure to keep the wider build running smoothly.
As the principal access point onto the site, the North Plaza is designed to streamline logistics for the thousands of workers and deliveries needed across the construction programme, helping to cut down on inefficiencies as the build ramps up. The contract forms part of a wider push to keep work local - Sizewell C has already awarded close to £1bn in contracts to businesses across the East of England since construction formally began, with more than 70% of the project's total construction value earmarked for UK companies.
The North Plaza scheme is also expected to create around 70 jobs, adding to a workforce on site that has grown to almost 2,000 people, including more than 100 apprentices. Sizewell C is being developed to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity and support the UK's energy security, with the wider project expected to meet around 7% of the country's energy needs once operational.
