A survey by Neos Networks shows that 82% of UK data centre operators have delayed build or expansion plans due to the lack and availability of fibre (high-capacity broadband wiring).
In many areas, the civil infrastructure to lay fibre (ducts, trenches, road crossings) is lacking or slow to obtain permits, which holds back projects even where land and power are secured.
This is essentially problematic for new data hubs outside London, where connectivity is critical to project viability. Operators say fibre is becoming as crucial as land or power when selecting sites.
