Planning consent has been secured for a major £50 million redevelopment of the Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham, Wiltshire - a project now known as Chippenham Riverside. The approval by Wiltshire Council's strategic planning committee will see the under-used retail site transformed into a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood with 225 new homes, retail space, and leisure areas.
The ambitious town centre reset aims to reconnect key parts of Chippenham, including the High Street, Island Park and the River Avon, with better public spaces and upgraded streetscapes. New homes will be complemented by expanded areas for shopping, dining, and community activity, helping to reinvigorate the heart of the town.
Developers and local leaders say this project represents one of the most significant regeneration opportunities in Chippenham for decades, providing much-needed housing and economic support while helping to strengthen the town's identity and long-term appeal for residents and visitors alike.
